BARN SHADOW ANTIQUE PLANK FLOORING GRADE INFO
Character Grade: Retains aged characteristics including some cracked knots, some surface checking, occasional small knot holes, some fossil insect scarring, natural color variation, some horizontal shear, vertical grain & flat sawn grain orientation, some nail holes and associated mineral stain; these characteristics may vary with wood specie and source of wood.
Distressed Grade: Exterior face of barn siding exposed as working surface of flooring; 1/16" surface planed prior to moulding allows us to capture some weathered patina on surface. Flooring will contain characteristics inherent in this aged wood including some surface checking, some cracked knots, occasional small knot holes, some fossil insect scarring, natural color variation, possible trace of old paint, some horizontal shear, vertical grain & flat sawn grain orientation, some nail holes & associated mineral stain.
Rustic Grade: Custom resawn from old factory decking or barn timbers, the original brown rough sawn surface is hand sanded to retain its aged patina. Edges are slightly rounded over. Some individual pieces will have subtle crowning and/or cupping, and overall floor may exhibit slight variation in topography giving it an old colonial footworn appearance.
Select Grade: Many boards will be essentially knot free & clear; occasional board with several isolated knots; may have some slight surface and/or heart checking; flatsawn, rift & vertical grain mix.
Rescued Oak or Beech: This least distressed-looking heartwood flooring may contain characteristics inherent in aged wood including some tight sound knots, slight surface checking, natural color variation, vertical grain & flat sawn grain orientation; little or no fossil insect scarring or nail holes & associated mineral staining will be present. Similar to #1 Common & Better. Oak may be mix of white and red , but usually heavy to white.
